4 Tips to Improve Network Security: Comprehensive Guide
P

As an experienced Linux user and no-code app developer, I enjoy using the latest tools to create efficient and innovative small apps. Although coding is my hobby, I still love using AI tools and no-code platforms.

Network security is extremely important in the current world, as all of our devices are interconnected on the same network. IoT devices help you to manage your devices via smartphone, that too requires network connectivity.

But, the problem is security threats. There are millions of security breaches happening every month, and with the vast adoption of the internet, breaches are only increasing and we’ve been seeing millions and sometimes billions of data record leaks.

However, you need to follow some precautions in order to protect your privacy, even though you will hear people saying that privacy is a myth, well, that’s true to some extent, but big tech companies try 99.99% to encrypt and protect privacy, but to err is to human, sometimes loopholes can lead to breaches.

This is completely different from what we are about to discuss, so let's not waste your time, and learn the best ways to enhance network security.

1. Enable 2 Factor Authentication

2FA is extremely common and highly important, however, we don’t really want the hassle of receiving the codes, and then typing them. Sounds like a lot of work, already, however, this is one of the most important network security steps.

Mostly, websites and applications force you to enable 2FA, because security risk reduces a lot, and helps keeping your data protected from intruders. If you are running a small business, make sure that you make it a protocol for your employees to enable 2FA on all of their company profiles.

2. Use a VPN to enhance security

A private network allows you to make your work or home environment secure by tunneling your internet and data packet transfers through an anonymous network. It changes your IP address and helps you to stay anonymous while connecting to the internet.

One of the best VPNs I've come across is Surfshark, which has helped me to make my internet presence anonymous. It keeps your internet presence hack-proof and makes it easier for you to access content blocked in your region. Moreover, it offers a wide range of geo, so you can connect to any region, and any city that you want, to make your life easier.

3. Not opening unverified emails

Email spam has been common since early times, as per forbes report, Nevada is one of the most affected states by phishing scams. This gives you an idea of how important it is to keep your email inbox safe from such attacks, otherwise it could lead to potential losses.

Moreover, the best way to minimize the risk of phishing attacks is to separate work and personal emails. For example, if you have a work email like work@google.com, do not use this email to sign up for any site other than official Microsoft, Google tools, or any other necessary tools required for work.

4. Use Advanced Security Technologies

As cyber threats are growing, your approach towards best network security tactics should also grow. There are a lot of advanced security tech available in the market that can help you upgrade your basic network security to the next level.

  • Firewalls and Intrusion Prevention Systems (IPS): Enable firewalls and ips to create a shield between your infra and potential threats.

  • Endpoint Protection: Endpoint protection can help keep all the endpoints, that is mobiles, laptops, and other gadgets that can be connected to the internet protected, in simpler words, this is called end-to-end encryption.

Wrapping up

Improving network security is extremely important, considering the humongous amount of cyber attacks happening every day and every minute. In this blog post, we discussed how you can implement better network security tactics in your personal or work network to make it more efficient and secure.
